It seems I underestimated the power of internet bullshittery. Somehow, between the time I installed WinXP on here with all but the last two months’ updates streamlined in, and I downloaded the rest of the updates, I managed to get a massive Win32/Gaelicum.A infection. Fucking internet. So now I have to clean that out of my new system which is, otherwise, doing fucking marvelous. Its performance is through the roof, and everything just sings.

More after the kick-to-the-head.

I talked before about HL2 and giving my HL2/HL2:EP1 gifts to my father’s account… Well, my videocard, the Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 Ultimate, comes with an awesome bundle. Not only did it come with a full version of PowerDVD, and 3DMark06…but it even came with an activation key for HL2 ‘The Black Box’… The Black Box was to be The Orange Box without HL2 and HL2:EP1 for people who already had them, and it would cost $20 less. Valve canceled The Black Box, and that’s probably where the offer to gift your redundant Orange Box games came from.

But I have a copy. :D

Peggle is pure goddamn crack. It should be illegal. Maybe I’m a little biased given the name of this site, and what Peggle resembles, but my god… I played clean through Peggle Extreme (A demo version with a Half-Life theme which comes with The Orange Box) in a sitting…

You know you built your machine right when you get results like this…

I just played CoD4 for about an hour with the resolution set to 1280x1024@75hz (My LCD’s maximum res/refresh) with all the graphics turned up as high as they go…

First of all, it ran beautifully.

Second, my CPU core temps never reached 40°C and my overclocked videocard just barely reached 50°C.

My computer is almost silent. The CPU and videocard are passively-cooled. The whole case is cooled by two 1200rpm fans, and one 500rpm fan. (Scythe Kaze Jyu-Ni 12cm sleeve bearing fans) The CPU performance no doubt due to Scythe’s massive Ninja Cu copper heatsink, in conjunction with Innovation Cooling’s micronized synthetic diamond thermal compound. (I’m not making this shit up!)

Until I finish the write-up on the construction process, here’s some Hardware Porn™ for you to drool over. (And more of that to come, as well.)

So, a recent alliance between the GPMoD and a secret society that stands against evil in all its forms (Especially stupidity) Has spawned the idea of doing a 2D fighting game with characters based on our online personas and our respective communities’ in-jokes. I’ll have more to say about this project at a later date.

I really need to catch up on my anime… I haven’t finished Minami-ke or Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei, and now Minami-ke Okawari! and Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei are airing… Gundam 00 still sucks. Code Geass doesn’t return until April. The only thing I’m staying current on is Kaiji. I’ve been watching Triad’s subs with my father. He really liked Akagi… Kaiji doesn’t seem to appeal to him as much, but he still likes it.

Also, Evangelion 1.0 is the greatest thing to ever happen to the franchise, and perhaps anime in-general…but I’ll talk more about that in another post. (I swear to fucking GOD, I want to go to Japan just to SEE it in the theater!) It doesn’t come out on DVD and Blu-ray until late April… I have plans to make that my first hi-def purchase… And then I will write a fansub script for it. One that is in no way based on the original US translations… A completely new reinterpretation of the dialogue based on intense study of the background and mythos of Shin Seiki Evangelion, (This from someone who named their computers ZEROGOKI, SHOGOKI, and NIGOKI, on workgroup EVANGELION, hooked up with Blue, Purple, and Red ethernet cables…) and conforming to an ideal of ‘accurate translation at any cost’. People don’t know what the fuck is going on? Tough shit, you obviously don’t know something that you’re SUPPOSED to know. Read a fucking book.

I am serious about this. I am sick of all these half-assed translations on OFFICIAL DVDS, and ADVs crap releases. I am going to do this, and deliver them the goddamn script with the warning that if they alienate the intended demographic for EVA 1.0 with a shit sub, there is little doubt they will lose 90% of all sales of the movie to hi-def rips of it on bittorrent. They need to learn once and for all.

Well… A lot has happened this last week or so, and I need to try and catch up on it as best I can.

First of all, we all got our taxes back. $$$$

The first thing I bought, was actually a copy of the Orange Box…yes, I didn’t have it yet. I only got HL2 less than a year ago. (When they had that HL2/HL2DM/HL2LC/HL2:EP1 pack for real cheap.) I then gave my HL2/HL2:EP1 gifts to my father’s steam account, and bought him HL2DM.

First of all, Portal is as great as everyone says. I enjoyed it IMMENSELY. I played through it 1.5 times in a sitting. (I played halfway through the game a second time with the commentary on) Phenomenal. In every aspect. I especially LOVED the boss fight at the end. The GLaDOS AI is COMPLETELY BATSHIT INSANE and I think it may be one of my favorite FPS antagonists ever. :D

I finally got around to trying TF2 last night/early this morning… Man, that was GREAT. I started playing TF as soon as it came out way back in the day, and it was the first game I ever stayed up until 5-7am playing. (On an almost constant basis.) TFC was really a great remake…but it wasn’t really much better… Just better graphics, really.

TF2 is a milestone for the game. It finally takes Team Fortress from a mod to something that feels like its own game. I love the graphics, and the sort of over-the-top comic book sort of feeling. The game doesn’t take itself seriously, and that lets it be truly great, because it’s hilarious, fun, and a good team-based multiplayer game, all at once!

The whole team/character selection system, and the map briefing ‘movies’ are great, it’s a really incredibly nice touch. And then the addition of XBL-style achievements, and the stats tracking system… There’s almost too many good things to say about the game!

I can’t wait to play it later today when I finish building this computer… (More on that later.)

I think I might have given someone the Bird SARS Flu or whatever it is I had…then got it back from them… lol No fun to be had for anyone.

Tax season is upon us, which means computer upgrades for those poor sots among us (Myself included) who are poor enough to see massive refunds from the gov’t.

I’m building a real nice workstation that will be the subject of one of my projects. I will also continue work on my really slick arcade controllers. They’re gonna blow you away.
