I can still be counted among ‘the people who are still alive’ as the song goes. Still not operating at full capacity, but nothing a little dayquil and ibuprofen can’t fix.

Some exciting ideas regarding my arcade controller coming up! btw, if anyone would like a high-end arcade fighting stick made for them for the PC, or PS2 or Xbox, let me know. Wait until you see the design I have in mind. It’ll blow your goddamn mind…OFF.

teh interblag SARS

I think I’m dying of teh interblag SARS or something… I wanted to work more on the arcade project, but I’m sick as hell today… For a couple days, in fact.

I’m going to go curl up in bed with my PSP and take periodic slugs off a bottle of dayquil. Or maybe I’ll just go stick my head in a blender.

-UPDATE- 01/19/08 @ 09:53:15 pm
So, I took a little nap, and when I woke up, I felt a twinge of muscle pain in my right side and back…like I slept wrong…only it was impeding my ability to BREATHE. Up until that point, I’d had some heinous chest congestion that was limiting my ability to breathe somewhat…but this was bad. It took about 20-30 minutes, ten ibuprofen, and a hot compress of questionable effectiveness, to work my way from gasping panic breaths to labored breathing. I had pretty much resigned to a hospital visit at this point. Over the next ten or so minutes, I became much more able to breathe, as the ibuprofen kicked in and started obliterating the muscle pain.

That’s when I started coughing up blood. So yeah, I’m going to the ER, I’m fairly sure this is what they call pneumonia.

-UPDATE- 01/19/08 @ 11:04:09 pm
Or not… Okay, so the ‘coughing up blood’ thing was probably a bit of an exaggeration…it was just bloody phlegm… Besides, I’m feeling a bit more…viable…now. Even better than I did this morning. The stuff in my lungs seems to have loosened up, and the muscle pain is gone. I’m at least well enough to wait until morning for a visit to the ER. Because I really really really really didn’t want to be sitting in the ER waiting room in the middle of the night anyway.

Project Baka'cade - Part 2 - Baka'troller Revisited

So, back in September I talked about the Baka’cade project, and the controller I had made. I still haven’t gotten it into a real housing yet, and that sort of irks me… But I’ll get it sorted out eventually.

I’ve had a small surplus of money that’s been burning a hole in my paypal account, and I’ve been itching for something to do with it… I finally settled on taking the next step with the arcade project.

I revisited and picked up the parts needed for the 2P controls. As well as some T-Molding and other items. Only came to $43 shipped. One of the ‘other items’ was some custom made leaf switch units that are drop-in replacements for the standard microswitch package that is used in most arcade buttons. Leaf switches have a couple advantages such as less activation travel and reset travel, less resistance, no click, smooth operation, faster response times, etc. These things sound really cool, and they’re custom made by Ithaca Digital Visual Technologies (The name of the company behind GroovyGameGear), so I just had to try them out! I bought three of them, to replace the ‘punch’ row of my controller setup. (Since I use Ibuki, my most critical moves depend on the punch buttons!) If they’re all they’re cracked up to be, they’re definitely replacing everything except the player start buttons. (Wonder if I can use them on the joysticks…)

Feces Occur

01/15/08 @ 06:59:22 pm, Categories: Baka-chan vs. Stupid People, 368 words, 918 views

So, as many of you know, Dreamhost, the company that hosts this website as well as all my other sites, had a script go awry and cause a $7.5mill billing error.

I don’t think I could be any angrier than I am right now. I’m basically a starving artist, so the $280 they tagged me for this morning is a lot. But I’m not angry at Dreamhost. Not even a little bit. Feces occur.

I am angry at all the self-righteous assholes who are MONUMENTALLY cunt-hurt over this. Is it a huge and terrible fuckup that is going to cost people money? YES. Is Dreamhost doing everything they can to fix the problem? YES. What more is there?

The Dreamhost Status blog post is full of comments threatening legal action, or saying they’re leaving Dreamhost… For what? You’re not going to find a better host for THREE TIMES THE MONEY. Companies are run by people, and occasionally people make mistakes. There was no malice involved. Shit happens. Even the banks and creditcard companies make mistakes sometimes.

Every single argument these assholes make is ridiculous. Bottomline: Shit happens. Unlike a large chunk of Corporate America, DH is doing their best to fix things, and they say they’ll make it right, whatever it takes.

And to the people complaining about the nature and tone of the blog posts… I guess you never read your fucking Dreamhost newsletters. These guys couldn’t be serious at a FUNERAL if it were THEIRS.

Complain when they don’t fix it. Until then, I still stand by my choice to host with DH for the past three years, and it pains me to think that DH is going to take a massive hit no matter what just because people think they live in a goddamn bubble where nothing can happen to them.

Hell, I always pay with a Paypal one-time-use virtual card number, the only reason this got me is because it hadn’t expired yet after I paid for a new domain a couple weeks back.

Nothing like this has ever happened before, and it probably won’t happen again…at least, not the same way. Get over it. Feces Occur, and life goes on. (Until it doesn’t.)

Testing something cool.

I hope to be able to embed these things directly into my posts soon… But here’s something I’ve been working on the last night or two. (Takes a minute or two to load, it’s 6.65mb)

oh my, look at the time!
